Luton, Tuesday 11 August 2020: Domino’s, the nation’s best loved pizza, is this week marking its 35th birthday in the UK with celebrations at its first ever store – Luton Central.

From starting in Luton, Domino’s now stretches across the UK and Northern Ireland with 1,138 stores*, delivering 105 million pizzas a year to customers including over nine million of its much-loved Pepperoni Passion**.

Since opening its doors in 1985, the Luton Central store has played a key role in the local community, not just serving great tasting pizzas, but providing employment opportunities for local Lutonians. Brothers Mujahid and Arshad Yasin started their careers in the delivery and customer service teams in the late 1980s, before going on to become Domino’s franchisees. They founded AKM Pizza Limited in 1999 and took over the reins of Luton Central in 2001 – the store that started it all for them.

The Luton-based brothers now own 24 stores stretching from Luton to Birmingham and employ 900 people, including 200 in their six Luton and Dunstable branches. As well as delivering delicious pizza, Mujahid and Arshad are passionate about contributing to the local community through their ongoing charity work. This includes donating £35,000 to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital Appeal to build an on-site helipad, whilst also campaigning on behalf of the hospital through promotional activities.

In true family spirit, both Arshad and Mujahid’s sons are involved in the family business. Arshad’s son Janaid works as Manager in Luton Central and Mujahid’s son Ehsaan has stepped into his father’s shoes as a Customer Service Representative in their newest Luton branch, Riddy Lane.

Customers will be able to join in the birthday celebrations from today until this Sunday 16 August with a buy one get one free offer for delivery and collection orders, and every 35th online customer is set to receive a free order! Both offers are available at several participating stores in the area***.

Mujahid Yasin, Partner, AKM Pizza Limited said: We’re thrilled to be celebrating 35 years of Domino’s in the UK and my family and I are proud to be the owners of the very first UK store here in Luton. Locals will be able to join in the celebrations as we offer a free order to every 35th online customer and other great value offers across our branches.’’

‘’As we look back on the last 35 years, we’ve seen incredible innovations in ordering and delivery technology, as well as new and improved menu items. We look forward to continuing to serve our communities, delivering the power of the possible, one pizza at a time.’’

Today’s 35th anniversary comes as Domino’s announced its financial results for the first half of the year. View the statement here.
