DOMINO’S TRIALLING RAPID DELIVERY BY CANOE
Domino’s, the UK’s favourite pizza brand, has today announced it will start to deliver by river. Following recent extraordinary deliveries to a bus and a train, Domino’s is now trialling delivery via canoe to houses along the River Loose to ensure that local residents can order fresh, quality pizza to their door.
Famed for its waterways, a Domino’s Pizza ‘bouy’ will deliver to residents in Loose in a full wetsuit and accompanying buoyancy aid to ensure their pizza arrives safe and dry. To prevent any danger of a pizza drowning, the boxes’ floating ability has been thoroughly tested and, to be extra safe, pizzas will be accompanied by a Domino’s lifebuoy.
The store in Loose, Maidstone has been open for one month and has so far used 2.22 tonnes of cheese partnered with 1.07 tonnes of tomato sauce to provide pizzas for the local area. 112,252 slices of pepperoni have been consumed, and in excess of 13,400 pots of garlic and herb dip have been sold. The favourite pizza for the 2,400 residents of Loose is the Texas BBQ with a mouthwatering almost 500 being sold since opening on the 3 September.
As part of the trial, Domino’s has committed to a donation to the Loose Conservation Trust to help preserve the village’s picturesque waterways. They will also be running an in-store initiative for a month that will raise further funds for the Trust.
Commenting on the news, Domino’s Loose Store Manager, IIona Paozalyte, said: “We’re really excited to be the first store in the UK tasked with providing a river service. Being in an area that is famed for its scenic waterways means the rivers are a big part of the local community so we’re glad we can extend our standard delivery methods to harness the local scenery and ensure we can delver by land or water to pizza lovers in the area,”
The new service has already proved to be a hit with locals as Debbie Hayes, the first person to order a pizza to their riverside home, boasted: “It’s great living by the river but it has always been impossible to get food delivered to our house so we owe Domino’s a big thank you for allowing us to have a night in. I love a Pepperoni Passion pizza and I’m planning on having one every day of the week for the duration of the trial!”
