SCOTS AMONG THE MOST AMBITIOUS IN UK

Leadership research revealed as Domino’s recruits 400 extra team members in Scotland

to handle the festive rush

Domino’s Pizza Group, the UK’s leading pizza brand, has today revealed that Scottish team members are among the most ambitious in the UK. While only fractionally behind Londoners, Scots are ahead of the rest of the country.

Thirty four percent of Scottish respondents, who do not currently lead a team, said they have an ambition to do so at some point in their career. This compares with 35 percent of Londoners and a national average of 28 percent. The figure for Welsh workers is 22 percent.

The research, commissioned by Domino’s as part of its new leadership programme, TeamSkills explores attitudes to leadership among three groups of people: Gen Z (16 to 22 year olds); Gen Y (23 to 40 year olds); and Gen X (41 to 52 year olds). (1)

The research also reveals millennials have a more jaundiced view of leadership than older generations and expect leaders to be more ruthless and aggressive, less consultative, and have lower ethical standards.

Interestingly, the findings show soft skills such as the ability to listen to team members, build a consensus and resolve conflict were all deemed less important by Gen Z compared to generations Y and X.  Young people (Gen Z) are also significantly more likely than people aged 41 to 52 years old (Gen X) to rate ‘doing whatever it takes to achieve goals’ as very important. In fact, only 40 percent of Gen X rated high ethical standards as very important, the lowest for the three groups surveyed.

The festive period offers a great opportunity to inspire the next generation of leaders. As Domino’s gears up for its biggest ever Christmas, it is looking for 400 more team members to help make, serve and deliver its freshly handcrafted pizzas. While the store based positions are temporary, recruits will have an opportunity to secure a permanent role across Domino’s stores.

Lisa Tobias, a Domino’s franchisee in Scotland said: “There are around 80 Domino’s stores in Scotland and with Christmas one of our busiest times of the year, we’re looking for an extra 400 team members to help us handle the festive rush. With over 80% of managers starting life as delivery drivers or pizza makers – including myself – Domino’s offers a fantastic environment for ambitious people to really succeed. With clear progression opportunities for everyone, it’s quite possible one of our seasonal recruits could be a leader of the future, particularly with the support offered by our new leadership programme, TeamSkills.”

Domino’s recognises the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders.  Domino’s wants to help people have a better future, which is why it’s making its training and development materials available for everyone to learn the lifelong skills needed to become a successful team leader.  For more information on TeamSkills, the leadership programme designed to help people with the team skills and training they need to become a great leader, go to: http://corporate.dominos.co.uk/teamskills
