70 YEAR-OLD WILTSHIRE MARATHON MAN CROWNED A ‘PIZZA LEGEND’

Inspirational runner recognised for charity fundraising efforts

Domino’s Pizza UK has presented ‘marathon man’ Richard Warren, aged 70 from Hullavington in Wiltshire, with an official Pizza Legend status, by awarding him with a special ‘blue plaque’ and a supply of his favourite personalised pepperoni pizza in recognition of his efforts.

Richard completed last Sunday’s London Marathon in seven hours and eight minutes and has so far raised funds of £1,925 for the MS Society and the Swindon Therapy Centre for MS. His training schedule also kept his local area clean and tidy, as he collected rubbish as he jogged. Richard explained: “I first started collecting rubbish after my wife noticed how much was scattered around and decided that the village would look a lot nicer for everyone without it. I have been collecting up to six bags of rubbish each week!”

Sarbjit Negra, Store Manager of Domino’s in Chippenham said: “We heard of Richard’s achievement and are delighted to be rewarding his efforts as part of our Pizza Legends summer campaign, which recognises Brits who have achieved extraordinary things for their local community. We wish him the very best with his continued fundraising and we’d like to thank him for helping to keep our streets litter-free.”

Richard has been running seriously since 2007 by taking part in 10K runs and half marathons. He started to make sure he was fit and well to take care of his wife, Lynette, who has been living with MS for over 30 years. “This was my first full marathon and I feel so pleased and proud to have finished, I celebrated with my family and had a long, relaxing warm bath.”

Richard, who was also a London 2012 Olympic torchbearer, continued: “It’s wonderful to be recognised by Domino’s - my grandsons will be over the moon with my new title as they are huge pizza fans!”

You can watch Richard’s official Pizza Legend video here and create your own personalised pizza creation by choosing from eight quintillion possible combinations of bases, sauces and tasty toppings.
