- A significant milestone towards achieving 1,600 store target -
Domino’s Pizza Group has today reached a major landmark in the Group’s history, opening its 1,000th store in the UK.
The first Domino’s store opened in Luton in 1985 and since then, the Company has grown its store team network to over 35,000 colleagues.
By opening its 1,000th store, Domino’s is well on track to achieve its 1,600 store target for the UK. Creating around 35 jobs per store, this long term target represents approximately 21,000 additional jobs. Domino's recently raised its outlook to 90 stores this year, up from 80, representing a new store every four days in 2017.
It’s fitting the 1,000th store is located in Overton, Hampshire as it’s another example of Domino’s successful split growth model. By splitting over serviced territories with additional stores, team members are able to deliver our freshly handcrafted pizzas more quickly to new and existing customers, so they’re hotter and taste even better. This helps to drive customer satisfaction and order frequency.
In addition, Overton highlights how Domino’s new store opening programme is working beyond large urban centres, helping it achieve its vision to become the number one pizza company in every neighbourhood. The demographic of Overton also shows how Domino’s great tasting pizzas are increasingly appealing to families and the 45 year plus market.
To mark the occasion, colleagues from master franchisor, Domino’s Pizza Inc. attended the opening, including Richard Allison (President, Domino’s International) and Arnaud Gadaix (Vice President, Domino’s Europe), as well as David Wild (Chief Executive Officer) and Rachel Osborne (Chief Financial Officer) from Domino’s Pizza Group.
Commenting on the milestone, David Wild said: “From Inverness to Penzance, we’re extremely proud to have grown our footprint to 1,000 Domino’s stores across the UK. We recently raised our outlook to 90 new stores this year and together with our franchisees, remain confident in achieving our 1,600 store target for the UK.
“With a relentless focus on customers, quality ingredients and innovation, we continue to grow market share and lead the UK pizza delivery sector. The success and scale of the business is ultimately down to the commitment and hard work of our world class franchisees, fantastic team members and dedicated colleagues.”
To mark the milestone, Domino’s is rewarding the nation with 10,000 completely free pizzas. The first 10 customers to walk into every store across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Tuesday 1 August 2017 will get a free dough-licious pizza.
