– Domino’s celebrates new store in Glasgow by turning its uniform into kilts –
Domino’s, the nation’s best-loved pizza, has marked the opening of a new store in Glasgow by unveiling its own family tartan. Glaswegian designer Ken MacDonald, who is the owner of the world-renowned Houston Kilt makers, has created the special edition pattern, which has been made into kilts and offered to team members in Scotland who want to upgrade their uniform.
The tartan has been woven and stitched in the pizza-maker’s famous red and blue colour palette and has been officially added to the Scottish Register of Tartans. Colleagues can also officially hang up their aprons as part of the Scottish-themed celebrations – and replace them with new Domino’s family attire.
The new store in Glasgow Central has created 30 new jobs for locals and comes shortly after Domino’s celebrated its 20 year anniversary in Scotland. The store will be adding a limited edition ‘Scots Favourite’ Pizza Legend to the menu. Mushrooms were revealed as Scotland’s favourite topping in the poll, followed by chicken, ham, peppers and prosciutto ham.
Donning what is often seen as the quintessential emblem of Scotland is the first time that Domino’s has significantly updated its uniform from baseball cap, shirt, trousers or shorts and shoes in 20 years and follows a poll of its Scottish workforce revealing that two in three (67 per cent) would like to wear a kilt to work.
Despite more than a third of people in Scotland saying they would wear a kilt to work (34 per cent), just over one in ten (12 per cent) actually have according to research carried out as part of the launch.
Scott Couper, Store Manager at Domino’s Glasgow Central, said: “Domino’s has been in Scotland for over 20 years so we have strong ties and affinity with the country, the people and the culture. Our very first store in Scotland opened just up the road in Glasgow so we’re proud to be opening the country’s 63rd store 20 years on. The kilt is very much a family tradition in Scotland and that is how we see ourselves at – one big family all striving for the same goal of delivering freshly-made, great tasting food to pizza lovers all over the country.”
The new Domino’s uniform can be seen in all its glory at the new Glasgow Central store. The kilt is an optional extra for team members, but uniform guidelines confirm going commando underneath is not permitted!
The Glasgow Central store opening will see Domino’s invest over £250,000 into the local area, giving the community a welcome employment boost. The store is on the lookout for ambitious people who can become part of the family, offer exceptional service and demonstrate integrity, honesty, reliability and a passion for freshly-made pizza.
