Domino's delivers the ultimate festive family reunion from dough to door

07 December 2020: More than 20 members of the same family living on three continents and separated by thousands of miles were brought together for one very special gathering by Domino's this week. For years the Matthews family, whose roots are in Dublin’s Walkinstown, have come together at Christmas for a reunion - no matter where in the world they are living. However, because of Covid-19 the family in the UK, US and Australia, like one million other Irish diasporas, couldn't make it home this year.

Domino's, the nation’s best loved pizza company, heard about the Matthews family’s passion for pizza and  stepped up to the plate to organise simultaneous deliveries to the entire family all over the world allowing them to share their pizzas using the most ever-present technology of 2020; the video call. With stores across Ireland, the UK, US and Australia Domino’s was primed to be the perfect partner to bring them altogether. In celebration of this, Domino’s is offering one lucky Irish pizza fan a chance to win a delicious virtual pizza party by entering Domino’s Instagram competition which launches today over on @Dominos_ROI .

Speaking at this year’s virtual family reunion, Ruth Matthews Dodd said; “We have this lovely tradition of getting together in the house in Walkinstown for a big family dinner every December.  It’s been so long since we’ve all been together and so much has happened in this last year.  I miss my son Enda in Australia, my niece Lorna over in the UK and my brother Ronán in the US too and I just can’t wait to hug them again.  Our family in Ireland is spread over Dublin, Kildare and Wexford so we haven’t been able to meet up properly for a long time too.  It was just so great to see everyone at the same time, in one room, sort of, and to share pizza together.  I can’t wait to see them all in person and argue over the last slice!”

Melanie Howe, Domino’s Pizza Party Patron said; “It’s been a really challenging year for so many and we’re lucky to be able to bring families together for some of their best moments despite such unreliability this year. Even when the world is making hugs impossible, you can rely on Domino’s to deliver piping hot, fresh pizza from dough to door, all over Ireland and the world.  We’re hoping more people will get together safely with family and friends over video call and ‘share’ a pizza, safe in the knowledge that at Domino’s, we got this.”
